In order to create potions, an Alchemist needs a specific type of manual, the skill Prepare Potion and different types of materials. Potions are a type of usable item typically used to aid players in surviving or attacking. Players also brew potions for sale to other players especially since lightweight condensed potions are not sold in NPC shops. While not strictly a consumable potion, the potion creation skill is used to create an embryo from which a homunculus is obtained.

Potion Materials
Manuals are items needed to create potions. They can be purchased from the Alchemist Guild in Al de Baran, except for the Elemental Potion Creation Guide, which is obtained through a quest. Note that the Medicine Bowl is not an actual ingredient, but a catalyst for Prepare Potion.

- Red Herb : Best from Familiar (Payon Caves) or Red Plant.
- Yellow Herb : Best from Bongun (Payon Caves) or Yellow Plant.
- White Herb : Best from Ghoul (Glast Heim ST. Abbey & Churchyard), White Plant, Blazer and Lava Golem in Magma Dungeon.
- Blue Herb : Found throughout Rune-Midgard, mainly through Blue Plant, Goat or Nightmare.
- Alcohol : Low drop from Mushroom and a few other monsters. Mostly created using Prepare Potion or Change Material. Equipping Green Operation Coat & Scalpel will drop these when killing Brute & Demi Human type monster.
- Stem : Mandragora (North of Geffen) and Flora (Geffen and Comodo Field).
- Poison Spore : Poison Spore (Geffen Field).
- Cactus Needle : Muka (two South of Prontera).
- Mole Whiskers : Martin (upper two levels of Coal Mine).
- Witch Starsand : Bathory (Clock Tower Basement Level 4).
- Fabric : Whisper (Glast Heim or Sunken Ship level 1)

Fame System
For Brewers there is a system in which players are ranked based on who can create the most potions.
- Rank Point +1: 3 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
- Rank Point +3: 5 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
- Rank Point +10: 7 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
- Rank Point +50: 10 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
Alchemist ranks can be checked via usage of the /alchemist command ingame. Potions made by an Alchemist class player who is in the top 10 list will receive a 50% bonus to their efficacy. This does not apply to potions used through Aid Potion or Aid Condensed Potion.
Item Look & Feel
- When a potion is brewed successfully, its name will have the brewer's name attached.
- Fay's Red Potion
- Normally the brewer's name will appear in blue. However, if the character that brewed the item has been deleted, the brewer's name is lost, and their items become Nameless.
